The bad guy she was trying to prevent killing her parents wasn't planning to kill them. They commited suicide.

This does not surprise me. Watch them all and then you will understand dear.

Similar principle as series 1 of Life on Mars only not as good.

Basically a dissapointing end followed by months of waiting for some kind of conclusion.

They didn't commit suicide Marc, it wasn't a pact.
Alex's father killed himself and his wife by planting a bomb in the car. His idea was to kill Alex too, but she jumped out of the car to get her baloon.

It was only Gene that took her hand because she took Gene there and he got to her before her godfather could.
