im having a bit of a problem, im rebuilding my engine and having a bit of bore work, but my problem is the head, everything is going fine apart from the valve stem seals, all 4 exhaust valve seals are fine but all 4 of the inlet valve seals are splitting as im knocking them down, ive looked at another head and they dont seam to go right to the bottom. is this right?

From what i remember just tap them on with a suitable socket and you can see when its on all the way.
What make seals are you using?

are you oiling the underside of the seal or the valve guide? this makes them much easier. also just tap them lightly, no need to hammer the, a few light taps with a soft face mallet using a suitable socket will be fine. you will feel the point that they seat correctly.
