say if it was being used and it just froze...
and it was really slow starting up etc..
it can be just left on with nothing but msn running and come home to find its crashed..

over heating id of thought. i know one of my mates suffered that loads on his pc (heavily into gaming) hes now got everything watercooled

id agree with Matt on this one, cant realy see what else could be causing it unless you have faulty PSU

Try taking it out from your cupboard and leaving a side off it.
I bet that will cure it, if not then look at the PSU as mentioned above

Normally caused by overheating. Slow start up isn't the same issue.

do a full adaware clean spybot clean antivirus scan and defrag hard drive

Yea agree with above (I had a similar problem)
Slow PC - many causes (viruses, slow components etc)
PC crashing - I had the same problem my power supply was too "weak" to support my pc

Starting slowly could be due to low RAM, viruses or spyware.
As the others have said it could well be overheating, its worth taking the side of the case off and seeing if theres much dust in there as well. If there is grab a can of compressed air and give it a spray around the inside.
Also if your using Windows XP disable automatic rebooting.

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2.
Click the Advanced tab.
3.
Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.
4.
Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.
5.
Restart your computer for the settings to take effect."
