you plug the Three one in, you click "install" (or whatever) on the pop up, it installs, you then get a window open with a big button at the bottom of it that says "CONNECT" - click that and you're away!
But yeah, that does seem tricky to me!

You can set Windows to connect it automatically too.
The 3 USB modem is a fantastic piece of kit, can't fault it. It works in the darkest areas of Lincolnshire where my O2 phone doesn't even get basic 2G signal (O2's 3G coverage is piss poor, incidentally). Haven't used the Vodafone one but can't recommend the 3 service enough. It's even better in the HSDPA-covered areas.
