Is it possible to turn the original Xbox into a media center?
Purely to just play divx films etc from a remote location?
I’ve noticed there are many options out there, but just wondered if people have used tried and tested methods?
p.s don’t say buy a 360.

my dad uses an original xbox in the living room as a media player to play divx etc on our living room tele. Its connected to the network and you can open any file thats in a shared folder on the network etc, good for watching tv shows on
The xbox is chipped by the way, and has some sort of switch on the front to turn it on from normal xbox to one that can play divx and connect to network etc

£30 in Game second hand. I want one to make a stealth media PC, rip out the inside and crap a PC and hdd. Look standard and store the media on it rather than on my network.

Yeah but it wont do divx?
If I get the original xbox then I can have that in the bedroom as a media streamer and leave the HTPC attached to the main TV

Just phoned GAME and its £20 for the console with a controller, including a years warenty. That to me sound likes a bargin for a media streamer
I assume I can plug a wireless bridge into it to make it a wireless streamer?

Think it was just console and a controller, power etc. Then if you wanted a game it'd be like £3

Being told that there are different serial numbers and that some are better for media streamers than others?

but i can stream any divx straight from my pc to my xbox with some ms software.

The Xbox 360 will play DIVX and XVID videos now, if you connect using Media Connect (free download from MS).
Media Center on the 360 still won't, so you'll still need Transcode360. The original Xbox can use this:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/mediacenter/extender/owner/mcxkit.mspx
The DVD image can be downloaded from your local special shop.

nope safe and free to use. you install tversity on your pc and your ps3 picks it up over a wireless network as a media server
