It will clear fault codes on earlier vauxhalls yes and iirc TPS and ICV settings need to calibrate themselves again after battery been off for a while.
Not sure about newer models.

I'm 99.9% sure that with the 12v (and possibly 1.2 16v) when you disconnect the battery for a long period of time, it'll be really lump on idle etc until it self teaches itself.

leaving your battery off does not clear codes!!!!! my ecu stored a fault from the other day and it was still there today after leaving the battery off all night

it will store a fault if there is something wrong, you need to rectify the problem then reset the ecu, and it will clear the fault, if there is a faulty sensor it will bring it up time after time,
if your doing the paperclip test and you havnt got the car running it will come up with the cranshaft sensor 31 iirc, then code 12 which means end of faults,
you also need to put your lights on when the batterey is connected so it drains the 5volt charge out of the ecu that stores all the mapping for when the car is turned off at nite for example.
when you start the car after having the battery disconnected, let it tick over for 10 mins so it can map itself, then go out and drive it as you would usually for 10 mins

i got it checked out on a snap on computer as its a x12xe and cant do paper clip test on it. and it brought somthing up saying no rpm signal and he said its usually the crank shaft sensor broke when it says that? problem is, car wont always start

crank sensors 90% of the time just goose up and really intimitant on starting,
