Last night we tried to move my old corsa, x14xe. It's been sat for about a month, and i've taken the fuel pump out.
We could hear the starter motor trying to start, but there was nothing happening......

Surely you need a fuel pump as its inline, ie, pumping the fuel from the tank to the engine?

Wtf,lol
How do you expect it to run with no fuel pump. The fuel rail has to be pressurised for the engine to run.

You need the fuel pump to supply fuel to the engine, without the pump theres only a tiny mini amount of fuel left in the fuel lines that will run the engine for maybe 5-8 secs after which the fuel system has been depressurised; meaning theres nothing left in the fuel lines, so it wont start cos theres no fuel, theres no fuel cos theres nothing pumping it to the engine, quite simple really

surely it would "tick over".....or there would be a "spark" there.....not just the starter motor turning.....

Fair point, should offer to fire regardless of whether the pump is connected or not...
What happens when you turn the key?

When I've had a flat battery in the past it has made a clicking noice but not had enough juice to turn the engine over

your starter motor might be fooked then, try bumping it, at least then you will get an idea if it tries to start. obv it wont start properly without the fuel pump present but worth a try. failing that put the pump back in and try
