Colin, in that case, just keep the Golf until you want the M3. I'd rather a VAG than a BMW personally. But then it's up to you. BMWs are sooooo comfyyy.

Aye definetley, Nothing worse than being bored with a car. If your not looking for speed then its a great car, And they can cruise on the motorway at 90 no bother. There just not quick off the mark or pushing when you drop a gear. But its a good commuting car, And i'd imagine you know your BMW's inside out by now

Any other diesels on tap for around 6k?

Seen a nice 530d Msport, could take the hit in fuel ecconomy, though it had 130kodd, maybe a bit too much miles. Or would it be totally amazing & best thing ive done ever..................

Audi..............?

Nothing else I like really, I like German

Although it would occasionally get spanked on the way there and on the way home (and you can't help it an an M3), dad couldn't get to Manchester and back on 1 tank. That's only 180 miles one way for us. Big tank, at least £60 every fill up

And tbh, I'd rather a low mileage 120d for the time you're talking if you just want a 'change', than a high miler 5 series.

However, comparing the E39 to E46, it's far superior. Dad was going to buy a newish 318i SE E46 saloon. Test drove a 3 year old 520i SE and love it. That was when the 2.0l's were 6 cylinder though.
