I paid £1300 for my 1.4LS at 17 (TPFT), £800 for my 1.4SRi at 18 (FC), 700 for my 1.8Si Escort at 19 (FC) and now I am paying a tad over £300 averaged FC for my 2.0DTi Astra at 20 going on 21

Man as soon as you hit 20 it just drops!
Been talking to my Mom and she suggested getting insured under her name for a few years. So even if I have no NCB I will be older so it should be cheaper still.

Cant do that, its illegal, its called fronting. If you are involved in something that needs a claim and the company suspects you are actually the main driver they will void your insurance. Not a good thing to risk tbh
Mine only dropped to 300 because Norwich Union fucked up a new system they were trying out, worked out in my favour in the end

You'd think that, The AA just quoted me £1200 for my 1.3 Punto, I'm 22 3yrs NCB. Think i'll stay with Churchill who offered a far more realistic £400

It doesnt matter who its registered to in the eyes of the insurance company, if you are going to be the main driver you need to be insured as the main driver. By all means put your great aunty Celia who lives in Australia and has been driving like a Christian for the last 100 years as a named driver, as long as the person involved in an accident is corrctly insured it doesnt matter

If your going to spend 2500 on insurance on a car then you might aswell but a car worth spending that much money on insurance, when i passed my test i paid 5500 to be insured on a 206 GTi, which is alright considering it cost 3600 to drive a 1.6 307
You paid £5500 to be insured on a car for a year? SHIT THE BED!
Yep And I've never regretted it, all my mates were driving Crappy poverty spec slow Car's with no mod con's and crappy interiors like 1.2 8v corsa's
And i was driving a driving a 2.0 GTi with suede and leather interior A/c on a 51 plate car and never had a problem with it whereas all my mates banger's were breaking all the time
theres some middle ground though, when I passed my test I bought a new astra (2005 reg at the time), 1.6 16v sport and only paid £900 insurance
