I keep getting errors, things want to close down then the laptop just pretty much stops working.

It's ever since I clicked the ActiveX control thing on that webcam link Willay posted

None of my antivirus stuff is finding anything though and I'm not formatting my hard drive as I have no way of reinstalling stuff.

Help

Yup.

I've had two more messages with broken things too but can't remember what they were.

If the problem persists, either format and re-install, or attempt using the built in system restore to go back to the day before you installed the Activx software.

I've done a system restore to 10 days ago.

Still there.

Was worth a try. If Av and Spyware wont pick anything up, and its still playing up, the only real option is to format and re-install tbh.

If that's the only reason you dont want to restore your laptop, I'd consider investing in a external hard-drive. You could back up all music/files/porn and have it as a permanent fix if such thing happens again.

Try running it in start mode to see if anything happens. If not, then one of the services/programs on normal startup is causing it. If it works in safe mode, add me to MSN and I'll tell you exactly which services you need/dont need.

Oh one last thing, and this is an important one. Download a program called hijackthis HERE run it, and then post the log here. That way we can find out if your processes are legit

He's on Vista. From the logfile, these are the two that are the nasty ones. As far as I know, the first one is just plain old spyware, while the second one is an actual 'computer fuck up' device

Did it not give you an option to erase via hijackthis? You'll have to do the scan again and look for anyway of clearing these items. If not, it'll have to be done manually via the registry, or via one of the programs further down. 2nd option is easier mind

Download the three programs at the bottom of this message. They're anti-spyware programs, but they work together. There are some items one wont fix while the other will, and vice versa etc. Once the problems have been fixed, you can remove two of them but keep adaware. It will prove to be useful if this happens again.
