I know they are renown for going porus but have also heard they can be sleeved to prevent them going porus... Can anyone on here confirm that?
I have been offered an engine/box/loom etc for a good price but its a non coscast head by the sounds of things. I'm just wondering if in the long run its worthpaying a bit more for an engine with a coscast head

yeah thats right. I dont know weather its worth having it done or just buying a coscast engine. Is there any way of checking this coolant channel without removing the head? (the engine is out of the car and hasnt been run in about 12months or so)

Has there not been a few cases of coscast heads going porous too? Coscast heads aren't as likely to go porous iirc

IIRC its all hogwash, the coscast heads just as likely to go porous.
Someone confirm?

i dont know why people call it "porous" as it isn't..
it's a small hairlight crack between the water and oil ways
the reason it happen's on gm head more often, if they are made of softer metal, and usually it happen's when over tighening the head bolt's - this is the reason why vauxhall revised the angle torque setting on the bolt's for gm heads...
