The 1.2 is chain driven, all the 1.4s are belt driven. The later ones (Z14XEP) are twinport, the earlier ones (Z14XE) aren't.
There's not anything to choose between the two 1.4 engines, even the fuel economy is similar and they're no different to drive.
Having driven 1.2, 1.4 and 1.8 Cs, the 1.8 is obviously the best, the 1.4 is very good though still. The 1.2 is a MUCH slower car IME.

I've heard loads of 1.4's that sound exactly like 1.2's though

Not the rattly chain is loose sound, just the metallic sound that the 12v and 1.2 16v engines make. Hard to explain. This just lead me to believe the 1.4's were chain driven too.

So none of the 1.4's are chain driven
edit: Should have read further. Kay.

Any other diffrences apart from the fact ones chain ones belt? Are the twinports noisey then?

I wouldn't exactly call them noisey.
The Twinports have some kind of different manifold too iirc.
