My bike is knackered. When you stop peddaling and try to coast the chain still spins, meaning the pedals are still going round! In other word I have to pedal ALL the time It's a fucking killer.

What the heck is up with it?!

Right it's been a few months and I've only just bothered to take a look at my bike

Here is what I found:

The gears, and when this came away loads of ball bearings fell out. Is that normal or a sign that its fudged?!

This is where the gears were located. Was it supposed to come away from this or not?

Any ideas bike people?

Also, if it is fudged, would I be able to just chuck the rear 26" wheel from my Dads bike on there instead? That has a 7 gear casette on it also.

yer your dads wheel should fit on fine if its the same 7 speed cassette and 10mm axel.

Looks like you have undone the cone nuts whilst taking the freewheel/cassete off and thats where the bearings have come from.

Pull the axel out and give it all a clean up and bosh the bearings back in with some fresh grease

You will need a thin 15mm spanner to do the nuts back up though as you have to hold the inner nut whilst you tighten the outer to get the correct load on the bearings.

Then just take the wheel to a bike shop and ask them for a new freewheel for it. As those ones are a complete unit.

Then just screw the new one on and job done

I don't fancy putting those bearings back tbh

I did a job at my work the other day which required me to line up bearings which were 0.5mm thick. Put me off for life that did.

Screw that
Look on ebay, get a cheap wheels on there. My mate buys whole jump bikes, breaks them down and sells the parts. He makes on average £120 on each bike and he now owns 3 amazing DH bikes from parts hes kept!
I wouldnt have the patients to do it tbh.

Yeah my first thought is try my Dads, and if that doesn't work I'll probably just source a new wheel from somewhere.
