Isn't the 1.8 engine Chain Driven? Or is that just the 2.2 engine? Or neither

so you want a 1.8 out of a vectra b? so about 1998? so its not really going to be that reiable is it? just put a xe in and stop bein a girl! if your worried about the xe buy one out of a running car!

how much would it be for the conversion and things? i personally would just get a 1.6 will inlet etc and you would draw if not beat a 1.8 corsa.

The 1.8 doesnt have the same sh*tty inlet as the 1.4/1.6..

The XE has a rubbish power/torque curve, they weigh a tonne and a stupidly over-rated IMHO.

they are really heavy, and will probably cost me more on fuel. i really want a small block.

Yep, i mean why would hundreads if not thousands now live in

I'm not saying the engine is CRAP, they are very basic so easy to install and decent power for its size.. But I personally prefer more modern stuff.

Think if your prepared to put a decent amount of money into a redtop and have the knowledge and space to do it yourself i think it's worth it as when any engine has been fully re-built it doesn't matter how "old" it is then.
But if can get something modern eg 1.8 and easier to maintain then go with that.
Mean the redtop engine can take ALOT of punishment with what ive heard over the years hence why it's in alot of track and rally cars, even ford use it as JR pointed out.
But unless you can do alot of the work yourself, i think the 1.8 is a highly good alternative.
