OK, so I need to call BT as they are thieving money from me that they haven't told me about and whilst I'm at it I want to talk to them about changign my home number... not that I ever use it but my number is like a whore, I get 10 messages a week all for various people/companies who have presumabloy ahd this number before and its a massive PITA... will they do this for free etc?

Change of number from BT it something like £100 isnt it not? i can remember ages back we went to change ours but soon as BT told us the price well you know what we said.....

I get about 10 calls a week (when I am in so god knows how many I dont answer) trying to sell me something or carrying out surveys...
I just hang up as I try to have as little a need to contact BT as possible...

It's free to change a residential number.
Are you sure you aren't getting confused with the price of having a brand new line installed (i.e. there was never a BT line at your address)? Because that is about £117.50 IIRC.

If you are receiving unsolicited telephone calls, you need to register with the TPS (Telephone Preference Service) - this is free to do:

Be careful changing your number as it can mean any broadband on your line is ceased too (as I unfortunately found out)...

As far as I know you have to pay to change your number unless its because of nuisence calls for which you need a crime reference number first
