So i took my car in yesterday for its mot, the exhaust smelt reallly badly of petrol, but the guy said it might be a pipe not sealed properly, so he sealed it and did the mot.
It still failed on emmissions, so he said take it to vaux and get it on the diagnostics machine.
To which they have come back this morning with 2 fault codes.
1. o2 Sensor - which will cost about £90 which is fair enough, so im getting that done.
2. Ecu = NOT GOOD!
He said a new ecu would cost me about £400
So im just wondering, is he right about them beeing £400, and could i just use one off another corsa if someone is breaking one etc

Oh and this might be in the wrong place, but i want as many people to see it as possible!

You can get O2 sensors cheaper than that , £400 prob is the price off a new ecu at vaux but why does it need replaced?
I would try the O2 first as if its fooked it will put your fueling all wrong, then reset the ecu and see if it cures it if it still comes up as needing an ecu then get a 2nd hand 1

they might be old codes that havnt been cleared aswell
need to clear the codes, drive the car and then read the codes again as ive found out....
the ecu will probably be aload of bollocks that vaux are telling you....
what are the emmision test results (printed on the white slip with the mot failure sheet)
is it miles over or just a bit? could just need a good thrash and some fuel suppliment

Sounds like there having your pants down. BIG TIME
£400 is an absolute joke
If you like to do things on the cheap and dont mind second hand parts, the local scrap yard is your friend. That includes the 02 Sensor.
