how doi go about this,surely it cant be soo simple lol, what sort of paint do i need?

it can be as simple as you think.
jack the car up at the respective corner and if possible, secure it safely on axle stands.
remove the wheel and place it under the sill for added safety should the car fall.

brush off any flaking rust and wash/degrease to remove all dirt.
perhaps work the metal thoroughly with a wire brush prior to paint.
brush on hammerite metal paint will see you fine. a variety of colours, but use your head.

tip: try to avoid painting the wheel mating surface upon the drum.
