Preferably a D40 or something similar. I can get a Sony a200 for about £270 but obviously if i can get something similar, cheaper..

Anybody got any good websites or where to buy them?

a200 is probably the best for that price unless you come across a D70/450D second hand for less.

yeh i do, tbh as much as people say nikon/canon. sony has just as many features and benfits as the others (also similar amount of drawbacks).

sony are slowly getting a name for themselve in the dslr market its just canon and nikon have been around longer so obviously have already got their name around.

i was so close to getting the a200 when i was looking just ended up going for canon because of the deal.

Take a look at TalkPhotography.co.uk - the forum there has a very good for sale section which often has well looked after DSLRs with good prices too

Get this months 'Autunm' 'Digital Camera' magazine.

They comapare:

D60
A350
1000D

The test basically says that the Sony has more features but the Nikon is the better camera.

(And thats the more expensive Sony rather than the A200 )

I bought my D60 last week and am really happy with it, just got to get to grips with it and go out and get some shots. A friend has just bought a A200 and it does look quite a good camera for the price. I personally got the nikon as I already has lenses I could use (albeit no auto focus) from my film slr.
