im using the sony a200 all with standard kit on it
em very small amount of chopping done all have bourders, image 2 and 5 have a slight black fade out on all corners
all have slight adjustment on levels and contrast me thinks

Good pics. Could possibly do with a bit more lighting on the shaddow side to show a bit more detail, but still very nice.

yeah was thinking that as i looked over them again
was thinking i could use some sort of light reflector to add a soft light to teh shadows ware posible? or just edit in ps?

Yeah the guys for mag photoshoots would use external lights

You could try photoshop's "shadow/highlight" adjustment on the darker areas, (IMAGE->ADJUSTMENT->SHADOW/HIGHLIGHT) and play around with the highlight settings which would bring the brightness up, but the colours won't be as good.

You could also try shooting at bracketed exposures (-2, 0, +2) and then using either photoshop or photomatix to make an HDR (high dynamic range), which if not over done can give a more balanced picture.
I don't really know a huge amount about photography, so if I'm speaking shite, I do apologise
