Author upgrading my kit lens (canon)

I managed to do a 0.6 second exposure @18mm handheld with no shake with my 18-55mm IS kit lens. Just to give you an idea of what the IS can do

sounds like the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f2.8 IS USM is what im looking for then. £610 on ebay.

Provided the subject is still im usually ok to about 1/15th sec

A nice wide aperure can only be a good thing but i find that i would want a prime lens about 100mm rather then the "kit" focal lenghts...
I use my kit lens for landscape stuff so see no need for wide apeture where-as my 55-250mm lens is an F4.6-5 (or something like that) and i'd prefere that to be wider as it would be used more.
(Hope the above makes sense)

dont have a use for anything more than 55mm apart from when im at Oulton Park

I think 50mm is the perfect focal length imo, Il be sorted on saturday when the bastard will finally auto focus

I've learnt to control the shaky hands Unfortunately I didn't like the photo so I'm pretty sure it's been deleted, I'll have a look in a bit, if it's not there I'll try and get another

Edit: Haven't got that pic anymore but I've just realised the pic I posted in my new camera thread was 0.5 seconds @55mm handheld, there is very slight shake although it doesn't show in the smaller pic, if you click on it tho and go to the full size one you can see it but it's not bad considering the shutter speed
