right.. long story short.. i brought a R reg tigra for a bargain as a bit of a gamble..
it is in a decent codition.. however it doesnt start.
obviously i knew this when i brought it.. it is just a bit of a challenge for me so im just checking to see what sort of common problems etc they have..
the engine is a 1.4 16v... it has done 108,000 miles...
no details on why it doesnt start.. the battery etc is connected and the dash lights come on when you put the key on ignition...
also, when you go to start it... it just goes... "KAAAAJONK!" lol.. if that is understandable by text..
is it a starter motor? do tigras have imobolisers that is stopping it from starting? would it just be a case of getting the key re-coded? is the engine seized? is it deeper than i expected and this is a bigger challenge??
the engine management light is on... so....... 
any help would be greatly appreciated 
just to give me an idea of where to start... 
thanks in advance.... p.s. no doubt someone is going to say... "put a xe in it!"... so before you do... i wanna know what is wrong with this engine incase i could fix it with little cost before i go to plan b lol..

if the management light flashes then its the immob
try a diff starter see what happens
also check the timing gear is intact

cheers mate.. i'll have a look.. also i have heard loads about the paperclip test!?!?! any way of telling a problem through doing a test of some sort? any other help would be appreciated... =)

*UPDATE*
the engine management light doesnt flash.. it just stays on... (so am i correct in saying its not the immoboliser?!?!)
tried to bump start it down a hill.. but no luck... hence im guessing its prob not the starter motor...
anymore info on the timing gear?!?!
also.. hopefully getting a bloke who lives round the corner from me to pass an eye over it tomorrow to see if he has any input..
still... any help would be appreciated...
