Not a clue what I'm buying. My PC isnt the greatest spec, but seen a 2GB RAM card in Maplin for reasonable money, obviously its not the best, but should make my PC a bit quicker? it's a DDR - would it be a matter of plugging it in and away i go?

My PC is bog standard XP sevice pack 3.

I assume DDR's are the most common?

You can use this to see exactly which type you need.

and yes, usually release a couple of clips and just pushed into the slots.

Can you motherboard take DDR RAM?
I'm guessing its not that old so the answer would be yes but you need to make sure before you buy.

Use the Crucial website that Allan linked to to check what type of RAM you need. Witout knowing that motherboard you have, that is the next best thing.

Depending on how old your PC is it could take DDR or DDR2, and they are not backward compatible as they have different slots, so you will need the right one. Also you will need to get a stick that is the same speed as your current one, otherwise it may not work.

If it's a Dell then I don't think they always like being upgraded, and if it's an ASUS motherboard then it will not take any RAM, it will have to be only select manufacturers.
