As above -- it's a superb DVD up-scaler. It'll play (and rip) CDs too.

Up-scaling basically improves the picture quality of the DVD, by making it a higher resolution. Turning the up-scaling off is very noticeable IMO.

The PS3 allows you to copy CDs to the HDD (hard drive), so you can play them as MP3s whenever you want without a disc.
