I've had a cold/flu for the past 2 weeks now and I have never ever phoned in sick before until today I was supposedly going to do a 5-1:30 but I only managed about 3 hours sleep last night and was feeling really bad this morning

I've worked part time at Lidl for just over 2 1/2 years now and today was the first time I phoned in ill

After the phone call I felt a bit better because I didn't have the worry about having to get up early and go in but I felt really guilty because I knew that they had a lot to do this morning!!! And I've been left in the shit plenty of times because of other people not coming in so I know what it's like!

Do any of you have the same guilty worry/feeling? I sometimes think that perhaps the guilty side gets the better of me and I go in because of that

Sorry for the essay

That is all

The only thing I used to hate about phoning in sick was when I wanted to go play footie instead and had to keep my story straight

I rarely have days off due to illness as always seems to happen when I'm stupidly busy at work. Or if I do have time off I end up going back earlier than I should.

Because I have let them down for not turning up! The manager was telling me about how much stock we have got coming in this morning so I know that they would stuggle even if I was in

Never feel guilty, just drop an email to someone saying i'm working from home

In the past i didnt really mind calling ill. as i used to work in a food shop and a school it was safer not to go in

My missus gets the normal amount of holiday allowance in her office job, but she also gets 10 paid sick days allowance, she feels its a waste not to use them

edit - i do try not to let her get away with, usually have to shoehorn her out of bed and into the shower, but she goes in the end

I've never had a day off because I was sick.

Used a couple of sick days though, only as a total last resort because they wouldn't give me holidays i'd asked fir months previously.

Felt really guilty.

pffft, I don't feel guilty at all. The amount of times people I have worked with in the past have taken sick days to go on a night out or something. If you are genuinely not fit enough to go to work don't worry about it, your manager gets paid a lot of money to worry about you not being in so you don't have to.

I do the same...self imposed sickness (beer) = time off my holidays. Same with taking my cat to the vets=annual leave

However, I noticed a few weeks ago one of my female colleagues has taken 12 days this year as 'dependants' leave to look after her kids

Made me wonder a bit that did
