how many connection points are on a xe/let starter motor as i have two both live and earth. but when i try to start in it just clicks then my earth wire gets really hot and melts the plastic

Red/Black-Solenoid 12v from ign switch
Thick Red- To the motor from the batt
Thick brown-Earth to the batt neg terminal/

So, 3. The earth clamps with the mounting stud/bolt the gearbox.
