12 hours shifts rotation. 45+ degrees (although they get teh day off when it hits 50+ degrees). Work for bugger all money, long hard shifts. They all look fecked at the end of the day.
I'll go back to Dubai in 5-10 years when its fully built. Architecture alone is worth the trip. Not to mention everything to do there.

Its really hot and humid out there. You get as sweaty wet as a prostitutes fanny filled with lube, tis not nice.
But lots of pools, and air con buildings to keep you cool.
But seriously, workers like that out there get treated as 3rd class citizens. But they are still prepared to work to earn money.
Dammmmmnnnn new idea. Send all our chavs who can't be assed to work there. Show them what real hard work is

I know of someone who jumped off the top of that, got arrested at the bottom though and had to stay in Dubai for 3 months or something at his own expensive whilst they decided what to do

I've not read it all but i suspect such a build has brought a few deaths?
As mentioned by someone else, was on discovery a while back showing mainly concreting problems, dodgy walls built that then have to be knocked down!
Also the site managers/s trying to communicate with people who speak a different language!
Wouldnt want that job, money would be alright i suspect!

This is down to temperature.
Concrete has to be applied with acertain temp range, if it gets to hot, it wont form properly, hence some of the hot country issues.
IIRC they use ice and send it through coolers, before being pumped (some of the heaviest hardcore pumps in the world are over in Dubai) up rediculas heights to be laid.

Imagine if you got to the top & the lifts broke & you had to walk back down
Dubai is deffo on my list of places I want to visit at some point. Guy I went to college with got a job there, making a fortune tax free.

The setting of concrete is an exothermic reaction too, so that wouldn't help things.
In high temperatures, due to that, it would take ridiculous amounts of time to set.
When they were building the Hoover Dam, they had to pump cold water through each section to stop it taking 100 years to cure, I guess it'll be similar in Dubai.

I had a crazy idea of working out there for 2-3 years doing what I'm doing now but on serious money then coming back here, buying a house with the money I had saved up and working over here again. But after talking to a few people about it its not quite as nice as I would think Long hours, 7 day weeks. Its basically work, work, work and extreme pressure all the time. Which is why it pays so well.

No idea whos told you that fella but it's utter cack. I've lived here 3 years and know people in pretty much every line of work. The only person I know who does massively long hours and 7 day weeks has been a lawyer, working for one of the biggest US law firms.
