OK lost about a tank of coolant in 3 months. But i seem to have had no problems since. Altho my car seems to overheat slightly on idle, can reach upto 98 degrees. Now me Heaters don't work, well im getting a slight warm air, but its not hot as it used to go. Theres no mayo only on the cap of the oil cap and there doesn't seem to be any leaks. I reckon it could be the head, altho someone mentioned to someone else it could be the Coolant Temp Sensor? Does a CTS effect the heating? Would it be worth going to a garage, to see if they know whats wrong? Would a diagnostic test pick up if the CTS has a fault? I really hope its not the head as I cannot afford to repair it.

what engine/car are we talking here?
best advice would be a pressure test which a garage can do. the lost of coolant maybe down to small leaks made more obvious due to the cold weather doesnt sound like a HGF though

CTS doesnt effect the heaters and getting up to 98 when the car is idling is perfectly normal.
Could just be a partly blocked heater matrix (nothing to worry about)
And as for the water loss just keep an eye on it, one bottle every 3 months could be a very small leak so have a good look around.
No headgasket problem yet but if you let it run out of water again you could be pushing your luck
