just had head skimmed an a full gasket set replaced, new water pump, timing belt the full wack, iv been told to take it easy an not over ruv the car... anyone know how many miles i got to take it easy for??

theres no need to run a head gasket in, but you shouldnt over rev the car anyway thats probly why it went

You won't need to run it in as above.
You can't over rev a car though unless the rev limiter is broken.

runing in is done where material have to match the other material on fiction like main/ rod bearings, piston rings, camshaft, brakes etc an not head gaskets !

I thought that if you replace a HG you should 'take it easy' for about 1000 miles - as in not having it anywhere near the limiter, 4k gear changes etc.
Or is it just the same as a car that's had it done 10,000 miles ago - as in able to give it as much stick as is reasonable?

You should let any car warm up before giving it some and it will prolong the engines life. Generally speaking, however long it takes your water temp to get to temperature (about 92degrees) it takes the oil double the amount of time.

Excellent, always let the car warm up a bit anyway. How hard is it to fit an oil temperature gauge - got the head off the now, wondering if it'll make things easier?

Yes you can. If you down change and you are going to fast the engine will over rev.

My mate blew up a type-R doing exactly that last week. Revs bouncing in 4th going a claimed 120mph, went to change into 5th but managed to find 3rd instead. Big ends were all over the road along with all the oil the big dafty.

It's still under warranty but the finance company got a price from Honda to supply and fit an engine. A snip at £4850
They've just decided to call it a day - finance company owe him nothing, he owes them nothing seeing as the car cost £6000 - repair wouldn't be worth it.

Theres a lad in nottingham who did the exact same thing with a brand new CTR about 2 years ago.
Proper daddys boy got bought it for his 21st birthday iirc. Anyway within an hour of picking it up its was returned to the dealership on a recovery lorry. The lads story was he was going down a street (40 zone, cant remember the steet name) and it died on him and started playing up fuck and giving the people there a load of shit calling them useless etc and demaded a brand new car under warranty.
So anyway the mechanic plugged the car in to read diagnostics. the last recorded engine rpm was 17,000 before it gave up. Diag recordings also showed it had been shifted from the limiter in 4th back down into 2nd.
The manager then asked the owner to confirm the road he was on (a 40 limit) which he did and then calmly told him that they would not be replacing the engine under warranty as it was misuse of a new engine, and that if he wanted to take them to court about it, they had proof he was doing 120mph in a 40 zone from the ecu recordings.
As you would expect, daddy had to fork out for a new engine.
As for running an engine in, thats circa 1950 lol. New engines dont require 'running in' anymore. Infact to get the piston rings to seal properly you need to accelerate and decellerate quite vigorously. Ive tested it on the dyno myself a few times, engines run in by the book are upto 10-20bhp less than an engine run in hard.
Look in honda owners manuals, the new firblade for example says not to go past the red line in the first 900 miles - thats it.
