When you take large sums of cash out of your own bank. Why do they ask you what is it for?

Reasoning is two fold, partially security, in that if people have a genuine reason then they tend to answer, if they're ripping off someone elses account they tend to get stroppy.

Second is about savings retention, most are targeted on the amounts they hold in savings.

I went in when i got the Ibiza, they wouldnt give it to me in cash, they would only give me a bankers draft. Said to the woman "Listen love, the stuff im buying with this, you cant use a bankers draft, Know what I mean".
The look on her face was priceless

Its to stop fraud in the main part. Money laundering etc.

You should get asked the same question when you pay a large amount in as well.

They asked me but tbh it's mostly curiosity of the person, it brightens up their day so I tell them, I have nothing to hide.

abbey need about a years warning to draw out anything over £1 and everytime i go in they ask for different forms of id, changed to lloyds much easier

When i withdraw large amount of money and they ask "Why are you making the withdrawl?"....i simply say, "i'm taking it to another bank thanks"
