I woke up yesterday and had a really sore neck down one side, and halfway down my back. I just put it down to a bad sleep or whatever and went to work regardless.

It got better as the day went on, but last night it tightened right up again.

Now this morning i cant even move without a really sharp pain in my neck.

Cant get a doctors appointment til next week either.

What the hell could i have done?

Pretty sure you could get a docs appointment the same day if you said it was an emergency.

If its bad, get yourself to A&E and get someone to check it. I've hurt my back a few times and it's not worth being half assed about it mate. Get it checked over soon.

i've had that loads in the past. it eased up after a few days. i just took some strong pain killers and kept it moving so it wouldn't lock up again.

I did exactly the same, I've dislodged a tiny bone in my neck which in turn is resting on a nerve so it's causing me neckpain and arm/hand pain. I'm going for physio on it next month. You may have done similar.

Sounds like Musculoskeletal/Nerve entrapment type symptoms. Classically upon waking having inadvertantly slept strangely.

Nothing serious, just painkillers and something warm on it.. Should resolve as quickly as developed.

Viagra stuck in your throat would give you a stiff neck.

I know you're a doctor etc etc and I may make myself sound like a tit, but dad suffers from a lot of back problems, sciatica, the lot after working on a building site for 35 years. All the chiropractors, physios etc he's seen have said put cold on it, as it will stop the inflammation and/or spasmodic episodes which is actually causing the pain.

Different problems entirely, complaint in this post a muscle strain due to likely overextension. Heat will soothe and reduce the pain from torn/overextended muscle fibres.

You're describing sciatica which is a type of mechanical impingement of spinal nerve roots. Thus anything to reduce swelling of the offending disc will provide relief e.g. Anti inflammatory therapy, cold compress etc.

It isn't just the sciatica that he has been told to use cold on.
