If i press the release valve on the rail it does seem to be letting air out of it.

well if it letting air out obviosly nothing can be trapping the fuel lines and the pump is working and pressurising, are you sure that uve mounted the fuel pumo correctly and its just sucking air

blocked fuel filter? might be an idea to undo the pipe going into the fuel filter and see if anything comes out

you did say you had real low fuel the other night, might have clogged up the filter
