Rite just looking for a bit of info really. Can someone explain to me how the whole tracking system works on a car? My car failed the MOT on a loose track rod end. So I looked at it and tighened what I thought was just a lock nut ( just after the rod end).
Took it back today and its loose again. So this time I loosened it all off and retighted. Seems fine now but I think the tracking is out.
Just wanted to how it all works really

By loose they usually mean that there is play in the track rod end, which means it will need to be replaced.
That's what I've always thought anyway.

You need to replace the track rod end.
When you remove the old on count how many turns it takes to remove it.
Then wind the new end on the same amount of turns.
You will need to get your tracking done again but it will by ny on straight if you do what i said above.
