ever since I got into this Ive only been saving my pics as 1024x800 because thats the biggest flickr really allows without using tons of space. I nearly always delete the originals too if Im happy with the edit

should I be saving originals and edits in full size 3500 x (forgot)

I always keep the full size originals (plus a back-up on external HD)

No point in deleting them unless you're struggling for space on your PC. Even if you are, get a external HD.

Thats what i've done. Got a 500GB External HD. Usually when i do a shoot, after editing the files are around 2-3gb (d300 raw files are huge)

I've got every single picture i've ever taken.

I'll need to start binning the rubbish ones but i'd always keep at least a full res edit if not the original.

I have all my RAW files saved on my external HD and the processed jpegs. I also upload the full size version to flickr (pro account) Its like having an extra backup on the web i suppose.

I go out for a shoot and then get back and delete the shit ones that I know I'll never use.

Once that's done, I arrange them on my server like:

Year (2009) > Month (March) > Date (18th)

Once that's done, I have 3 further folders:

RAW
Original
Web

Photoshop remembers the RAW edited settings so no need to save a edit. I can always click 'restore' if I want the original RAW.

It's wise to do so. I have sold 3 photos in 2 days, and if I had of deleted the original they wouldn't have sold...

I put everything into a Lightroom catalogue on an external HD - never, ever delete the originals that I'm happy with as you never know what you might want them for

never shot raw (will be starting soon though ).

but as for me they picks come straight off the camera and saved onto my external hd and then the edited ones get saved at a smaller size (for my site) in another part. really need to get a smaller external hd just for my site stuff.

as for uploading to places like here and photobucket i just upload the original jpegs and let it resize them (as you can tell i rarely do that)

If you learn how to use it properly, there's no-way you'll ever go back to shooting JPEG.

It's annoying at first... Slow loading and editing, more space (15mb+ per shot in most cases on my 450D), but the control you have is just amazing.

Oh, and RAW forced me to upgrade my laptop from 2gB to 4gB... It's still not ideal.

I rarely shoot RAW, I don't have the time or patience for editing! Especially like today, when I have 1200 keepers left ! I just run them through a macro on PS
