What's your budget?

I paid £50 for my Camlink tripod. It was £70 on eBay but I offered £50 and he accepted. It's solid, looks cool (all black) and comes with a black bag too. It certainly does me!

not much more than £50 to be honest. don't need it to be professional but lightweight would be a advantage

I've used several cheap tripods and I'll never use one again.

cheap ones are fine a lot of the time, but when your outside and its windy and you have a decent SLR with a big lens and say a battery grip thats when they fall down.

Tutor: Adam Murray
Exercise: 6

Project Title: Exactitudes - Preston

Aims:
The aim of this brief is to encourage you to consider the relevance and meaning of clothing in Preston, and identify some common trends. This may then provide you with inspiration for how you can use clothing in your own photographic work.

Brief
Workings in groups of 2 or 3, and shooting in a style similar to the Exactitudes project, identify 3 trends or elements of dress that are prolific in Preston and shoot at least 12 people that illustrate this. You will then have to present each trend in a grid of 3x4 images and include a print out of this in your module file.

You do not necessarily have to shoot each one on a white background, however it must be clear from your images what feature it is that you are focussing on.

More examples of the Exactitudes project can be found here:

Project Title: Charles Baudelaire – ‘The Painter of Modern Life’

Aims:

One element of this module is to encourage you to observe your surroundings and be aware of current issues and themes that could provide inspiration for your own fashion based photographic work. Baudelaire’s essay is seen as a seminal text in the grand tradition of social reportage. This exercise aims to encourage you to read and understand the text and identify keys points that could lead to the development of your own work.

Brief

Read ‘The Painter of Modern Life’ and make detailed notes about the text, then write a 1750 word response to the following question:

What are the keys issues Baudelaire identifies when discussing Constantin Guys’ work and how do they relate to the depiction of the everyday in fashion photography?

You should be ready to discuss the points that you have identified in the seminar session next week.
