Immediately as the engine starts there is a wer'ing sound that comes i think from the left hand side of the engine bay. its quite loud not a problem but would like to know what is it. It sounds as though its the cooling fan however the engine is cold of course because i started it cold. Anyone know thanks

duno mate.my brothers got the 1.4 sport and his does it when i first heard it i thought it was gunna take off or summat

does it sound like a hand dryer under the bonnet lol
if so then its the secondary air pump.

The SAI pump is to warm the cat up quickly (used in other countries where they start emmissions tests from start of key), your car will idle at around 1000rpm when this is running but then after about a minute is will cut out and your revs will drop to around 800rpm iirc
