I though the ignition energy for petrol would be lower than for diesel

diesel ignites in the engine using only friction, hence having no spark plugs
petrol would need that spark

Diesel has a cetane index, not a RON rating

Well, meant resistance to abnormal combustion - straight out uni notes
Minimum ignition energy is lower for petrol, so surely a small amount of compression would ignite petrol?

how the f£$K do the garages do it then?
If you know what you are doing you can feed the pump under the back seats and put a piece of pipe on the outlets under there and pump it out that way.

Not true, a mate put unleaded in my van (filled it up!) and it ran for about 90 miles on the motorway before cutting out. Undid the fuel lines and emptied the diesel out, filled up with diesel and it's been fine since.

Yer i think the petrol make its thinner and aids combustion

I put petrol(optimax)in my old 306DTurbo,then topped it up with the same amount of diesel and it was fine. Was a bit smokey and underpowered for a few miles but once it was cleared and topped up when it ran out,it was perfect.
