no real differance powerwise.
if want a mega spec XE give swindon or JRE a call, and excpect to pay £15k +
otherwise just find an xe and get it rebuilt

neither of them are any faster, one came without a lamda sensor and cat and it was said to be about 7bhp of a difference but you would prob decat the car anyway so makes no real difference

I forgot this wasn't General Chat and that the guy wouldn't get flamed.
For what it's worth, mine's a late setup XE with an enclosed filter and de-cat and I've got a printout for 159bhp.

thats true theres alot of tired old engines that mods end up returning factory figures rather then making it better

also depending on what mods you end up doing...usually the shit air filter, crap exhaust types, you may find that it may get to a certain rpm and then 'go' so to speak. but typically its just a flat spot and you have prob lost bhp rather than gained

so what car does the distributor pack c20xe come from, can you get one with a coscast head, or buy them seperate and put coscast head on the engine ???

why do you want the coscast head? gm heads have bigger inlets too start with

just remember if it comes out of a gsi or a calibra it will be higher insurence if your declearing it whereas if you get it out of a old cav it'll be cheaper on insurence as they go on what it come out off, and for dis or dizzy dis pack better as most dizzy engines running big bhp switch to a dis pack with aftermarket ECU's, and as for head i would recomend the coscast as the standard GM heads have a habbit of goining porus even tho they have bigger valves it makes no difference with standard inlet on :S

seriously thats an internet myth. they are both as likely to go porous as eachother.

cant agree more nic.
btw vxmechanic...if your building a 250bhp with comments like that id do abit more research
what specs the XE going to be out of interest?
inlet PORTS are bigger on the gm heads. the valves are the same size. some of the early coscast heads had 13mm guides and not 11mm iirc.
and a gm head is as good as a coscast head when its had the porous mod done. so you could have a reliable GM head for maybe half the price of a coscast.
ive had 2 coscast heads, rebuilt them and sold them. people like to have them on their spec sheets. and tbh the only time id use a coscast head would be for a +2mm big valved head!

I like the way late XE's have the dispac, it eliminates the troublesome rotor arm and dizzy cap (always wearing out!)
That said, the early coscast XE's are the ones to go for, flat flywheel, bigger valve guides and forged pistons as standard

I had the older dizzy cap version in my corsa and my mate had the later dispac one in his corsa.
Mine felt like had a more aggressive power band, kicked you in the back more so to speak.
They were pretty even top end wise though.

partyvan - later dis pac coscast heads are one to go for if doing mega headwork.
otherwise gm head with porous mod.
john...could of felt more aggressive due to a flat spot. if had some sort of airfilter or something on.

Possibly..although neither ran a cone filter.
Mine had an enclosed viper and his had a modified airbox.
I dont know......just my experiance. May well have been the weight diff as his was a 5dr GLS and mine was a GSi with povo spec.

ah fair enuf. ill take comment back then. just answering it presuming it had the typical air filter and the likes, where they end up causing a flatspot, but where would make u think its actually quicker.
