paypal balance is £x amount, does this mean the money is also in my bank account or do i have to transfer it from paypal >> bank?

Have to transfer it over as PayPal keep it in your PayPal account to make money out of it lol.
Once logged in, go to withdraw and click transfer to bank account and follow the instructions
Takes 5 days to clear btw.

No, that's their fee's isn't it. What I mean is that the whole principal of the money going into the PayPal account opposed to directly into your personal bank account is surely so that they can make some money (interest) out of your funds.
I might be wrong, but they rape you all other ways so surely that's the reason that transactions don't just go straight into bank accounts lol.

If you transfer over £50 into your bank, then you don't pay the fee
