I've obviously misunderstood it then, but I thought that you were trying to work out the VAT at 15% on a total amount.

£100 + 15% vat = £115 yeah?
But £15 IS NOT 15% of £115 is it

Doh, reading (and maths) fail on my part
I realised that the method I remembered was only any good for adding on the VAT, not taking it away. Oops
