I have a 1995 1.4 sport which currently likes to cut out at traffic lights or whenever you stop when the car is warm...

the revs just die...

the only visable problem is that the speedo doesnt work any more..

i belive this to be the speedo sensor.....

am i correct?

can someone advise me on how to solve/fix this... do i need a new part? would it have "fallen out"?

i am quite mechanically minded so will be tackling the problem myself..

thanks in advance

That's an odd one, you'd expect it to die when the engine's cold at traffic lights etc..

You're EML coming on? Get a fault code, cause it could be a few different sensors.

Sounds like ICV or you're EGR.

Doe's it die when you put the clutch down?

Check if it's a vacum hose first though, as thats the cheap fix.

i've also heard of corsa's doing this when the speedo doesn't work

Does it start back up straight after cutting out?

Also the speedo maybe the fuse has blown.

its a 1995 so its a cable speedo...

so would it have a fuse???

and yes it cuts out if you put the clutch down... it doesnt hold at 1k... =S just goes straight down...

and where abouts is the said "vaccum hose".... any pics with arrows would be perfect....

TBH I'd try and run some carb cleaner through it like THIS . I have used it before on the XE and it did the trick and see how you get on. I have also has the crank sensor make my old 1.6 GSi cut out.

I think the speedo cable has more than likely snapped, it is a 2 piece cable and it's usually the gearbox end.

No it's the same thing.

Fix the speedo and all will start working

Could be the cable or the sender

If its a 16v it should electric and it should have a sender screwed into the speedo output on the gearbox.

Check all the fuses if they are ok go get a new sender they are a few quid from the scrappy or £35 from vauxhall.

Got EXACTLY the same problem on my gf's corsa 1.4 16v. So far i've changed the speedo and crank sensor, but the problem still exists. The speedo is tempremental, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt!

sounds like the cable had snapped. happened on my old 1996 corsa sport, with the cable snapped the ecu doesnt recieve a signal to tell it how fast your going to when you get to a junction it stalls. i had a new cable fitted and it fixed it straight away
