went for a little drive yesterday afternoon in the sun and i had the roof off and my passenger noticed a knocking noise when i let off the gas.
so i went home and tried to make the noise again..
clutch in, 1st gear, foot on brake, handbrake off.
if you quickly lift off the clutch but dont let it stall you hear this knocking noise as the engine is put under stress
i've swapped the front and rear mounts with some i know are fine and it still makes the noise
when you stick your head in the top passenger side near the waterbottle it sounds like its coming from just below that (where the clutch bleed valve is)
and from underneath it sounds like its coming from the diff/gearbox.
after that we jacked up the front mount so there was no engine movement and the noise had pretty much vanished it was still there but you could ony hear it if you had your head very close.
any ideas?
here are the 2 vids

In the second vid when the camera is on the front mount I'd say it sounds like it could be the exhaust catching on a heatsheild or something

Sounds like your front torque mount is screwed.

metallic noise like that is normally an engine or box mount

he's changed the mounts.. from what i can hear it sounds like maybe a damping spring on the clutch has gone as pug 107 have a similar sound when they go... or try draining gear oil completely and check it for bits as diff damage can sound like this (jack car up plonk it in 1st an without engine running sharply rotate nsf wheel then turn it the other way in a rocking motion)... or it could be start of cv falure... multitude of things it could be unfortunatley.

how would i test this other than remove clutch? if i drive the car and leave it in gear an just come off the gas it makes the noise then aswell.

this is on my list to do, but wouldnt bits in the diff kinda be sound deadened as they are floating around in oil?

done this, no noises
- it could be start of cv falure -
checked for play and everything is tight
