I want to see this but the gf has been told it's crap.
If cloverfield is mentioned in describing it I'll probably also think it's crap.

At the start I thought it was going to be utter shit but by the end I enjoyed it. Marmite film though you'll either love it or hate it but it's cleverly done.

Bart- I'm assuming you watched some crappy pirate version... probably ruined the atmosphere.
Brilliant film... Just watched it at the cinema... really pulled me in with the story etc, was really well done. Great effects, good story, comedy accents / dialogue!
I felt it was a really entertaining film generally, a good thrilling plot and good back story setup / atmosphere.
You'll think it starts slow if you watch it on your desktop pc, with crappy quality footage and sound... but in the cinema the beginning section is just a entertaining lead up to the whole thing.

The pirate version is a dvd rip, I'm still undecided whether to go to the pictures or not.

There's already a DVD Rip out.
Very good film and very cleverly written / produced IMO.

do it... imo it's the atmosphere / scale of things on the big screen that make it good, on a tv / monitor it'd really make it seem a lot wanker.

yes, I had a dvdrip, which didnt make a huge difference as alot of the film is filmed with an amateur camcorder approach, like cloverfield.
I think most films are better at the cinema, but I just didnt think there was much substance to it.
I think you could sum it up quite easily....
Aliens land, man turns into alien, aliens go home.

no it isnt! are you sure you were watching the same film?

The start was certainly with a shakey hand cam, thats what stuck in my head... when they boarded the ship etc.
There was also another similar bit with the date in the top corner etc...
Are you sure you was actually watching it?

I thought it was a brilliant film really enjoyed it
First Half set up the story and really got you drawn in, the way it was shot etc. Don't understand why people thought the first half was crap, suppose they like films for action only which the 2nd half certainly gives you.
Overall a top film, would recommend

I thought it was a very good film tbh, very well done.
Drew me in with the life-like stuff at the start, and moved on to the human aspect of it, in seeing the aliens and not aliens, but other people, and we're being shit to them.
Then got into the action, which can't be argued with.
My missus is a film nerd and picks them to bits, and she was nearly crying at the little alien nearly losing his dad, so it can't of been too badly done.
Deserves the 8.6/10 on imdb imo.
(Watched the DVD-Rip btw, would love to go cinema, but skint after holiday)
The main guy turned scottish whenever saying Fooking though, and also in the advert they interogate a prawn, and he says "we just want to go home" this wasn't in the copy I watched, was it in the cinema version? Just intrigued as to why it was in the advert if not.
I like the way they went about early advertising as well, with the big no alien posters all over the place, subtle, but effective

Went to see this, at the cinema, thought it was good.
GF didn't like it and neither did a vocal amount of others, a few left before the end (near the end though) and the guy that shouted 'utter shite' can't have liked it much either
Apart from the camcorder look at the start I can't see any comparisons with cloverfield either.
