If you see a job stating...

'meets minimum wage' does that mean it's definitely minimum wage? I guess if was more than that, it would say 'exceeds minimum wage'? Finally found another job to apply for, but, I couldn't go back to minimum!

TBH probably just covering their backs with that comment.

Just apply, and ask when you're being interviewed.

I would assume its minimum wage or thereabouts, certainly not much above it.

You wouldn't say 'meets' if it exceeds it by much.

You're never above a job and what it pays, if you really want/need the money you will do any job, I have been in my job four years and to be honest I hate it, but LIKE FUCK will I EVER go back on the dole!

If I did really need the money, then yeah sure I'd go for it.

But I want to see progression! I've gone for jobs before that weren't what I was earning before... still never hear anything back

Even if you don't need the money something in between jobs is better than nothing, we are going to be in this recession for a couple of years yet so they reckon, so don't count on anything major popping up just yet, you may get lucky, but I would just take something that paid/had enough hours to keep me going.

You have to be in a job in the first place to see any progression. If I didnt have a job, I would take anything. I'd work in McDonalds tbh.

Exactly, and McDonalds actually pay quite well, I was on £6.08 (til it went up recently) and my mate at McD's got more than me, no job = sitting around doing little and getting into a rut, doing something keeps your mind going.

Got a mate in the construction trade taking the same stance, hes been out of work for around 6 months now.

He cant see the point of taking a stop gap job and has made it clear he will only accept a job similar to the one he had & earning 30k min.

Meanwhile his parents are paying his mortgage............to me that would be a bigger embarrassment than taking a job to put the bad times in.

£11.5k is just painful! I would dread getting out of bed so much... I was only on £16k before, so I'm not being too snobbish, I'm sure if it goes on and on I'll get desperate.

Right now I've only just started JSA so it's not too bad.

Its only £250 a month less, get a night/weekend job to make up the difference if 16k is what your after?

I can assure you, once the job you want comes up further down the line it will look much more favourable showing you've worked your nuts off doing whatever than having a gap in your CV for 6 months or whatever because 'I would dread getting out of bed for less...' Think about it.

I left a 19k a year job a few years ago to retrain in something different (my choice) and was earning much less than min wage, as I was a modern apprentice, its just one of those things, you often have to improvise in order to get ahead!!
