well, you can...with amazing difficulty
to get into my valeo (standard) light i had to hacksaw the plastic part of the light off!! (i only needed the lense though)
i wouldn't even bother trying tbh mate!

apart from buying depos that are already smoked there is another way. you can find standard clear depos from scrape yards etc (someone on here mentioned they are replacement lights for corsas that may have been in an acident or something). anyway you can take these apart without cutting them and all you do is paint the insides black.

Remove the metal clips, whack them in the oven at 100 degrees for 5-10 minutes and the lens will come straight off

no.
check on the front of the headlamps and you will see clear writting. must say DEPO.
if they say VALEO then you will have to butcher them off someway.

havent heard of them being done that easily. i always thought heating them up was so that the clips dont snap when being taken off.? could be wrong.

You heat them up to soften the sealant.

i was getting there, but after 2 hours i couldn't be arsed so i ended up hacksawing the fecker
i tried them in the oven multiple times too, didn't really help much though!
the clear depos are much easier to take apart once the glue is hot

Nope, its the inside chrome that causes the light to reflect in different ways. The case your painting has nothing really to do with it, just dont piant the chrome that surrounds the bulb
