How do you get to your desktop with applications open?
Like windows "Ctrl & D"

or better yet, hold down alt (option) + cmd, and then click on the desktop you can see at the bottom. Will hide the apps so arent in the right part of the menu thingy.

alt + cmd + clicking on the bit of the desktop you can see should def work.

Function and f11? You can change the shortcut in expose settings.

Yeah, he must be using a laptop. My f11 is volume down so need to press fn first. But iv got the multitouch pad which is my favourite thing on this macbook its really a massive improvement on any trackpad iv tried, well worth the money.
