do i need a press to replace these, or can you nock them in and out with a hammer like you can some others?

(never worked on a corsa C before....)

it might not even need a bearing now, ive been told it has a knocking sound from the front end while the car is cornering, the same thing happens on my girlfriends mums corsa c, i checked that out... ball joints, track rod ends, anti roll bar links then was told it could be the steering rack?
is this a common fault on them and does it sound like the steering rack is the problem?
