got a mk4 astra gsi turbo, was looking at turbo timers as got told they would be good for the car as im to lazy to sit for a couple of minutes and wait for it to cool down plus people look at me like im a freak sittin in it for ages lol!
what kind would be the best and what kind of prices etc?

Just take it easy for the last cpl of minutes of your journey if you dont want to sit in it.
You'll still get the looks when you lock your car up and walk away while its still running.

They are more of a pain, just keep off the boost for a couple of minutes at the end of a journey

This whole few minutes to let turbo cool down myth is bollocks. It only takes 15-30 seconds tops for a turbo to spool off so as people said, just keep off boost last mile or so. I've just got a turbo timer but not got round to fitting it. They're awsome. You can pick them up as little as £30 on ebay mate.

Isn't that a contradiction?
You've said it only takes 30 seconds for them to be able to turn off safetly, but still bought a turbo timer

its about getting red hot oil circulating out of the turbo not just it spooling down. turbo spins at idle anyway

I plan on setting it to around 30 seconds for moments other than pulling up at home. Like at petrol stations, quick stops etc.

If its standard I cant see there being much of a problem, otherwise it would expressly mention it in your owners manual, if its modified then probably is something in it.

i would think you will soon tire of ppl telling you that your car is running and then trying to explain what a turbo timer is

The mk4 Astra gsi handbook does say to leave the car to idle for 60 seconds after long journeys or if just been driven hard 
On my mk4 gsi I've got a 90 second turbo timer on my clifford alarm. Meaning I can use it when I want it at the touch of a button on the fob just before taking the keys out. Although I usually just keep off the boost for the last mile or two or on short journeys.
