Moving into my new flat in 4 weeks. I need reliable internet as i work from home a fair bit.. Has anyone got 02 Broadband and how reliable is it?
I just need a connection, nothing fancy as i route mail through a paid dyn DNS account.
Was thinking about going to PlusNet but feel it's going to be better if i go with BT for the phone and then have full control over what i do with Broadband.
Currently with Sky which i have no issues with. However, i rarely watch TV so find it's a waste of almost £60 a month

I have o2 broadband and have had no problems, they have a great backup service to.

Are you allowed access to your Broadband Username and Password?
Not a massive issue with Sky as the router is does what i want. However, if it's shite i'd need a decent hardware firewall or something aswell just for port forwarding etc. Not an issue, just another box laying about..

To give you an idea on the service they provide, we have only once in the last few months suffered downtime. They txt me to say there was a problem and about 40 minutes later they txt again to say it was all fixed.
Check on places like moneysupermarket, there are plenty of reviews.

Do you know if they block any ports? I know there are ways around it but generally a pain in the bum..
Plus, using the 02 router, will i have full control over the traffic over where to point what protocol etc? Or, can i just point all incoming traffic to a specific IP and have a Firewall doing all NATing, routing etc?

In a none technical way, I'm on O2 and its been spot on. I think its £10 a month for the best we can get in our area. Hasn't been any problems.

You can hack your way around this (depending on router) to show up all the details you would need to input into your own router, have a gander on google, its nothing Andrew couldnt do considering his qualifications 
I have heard only good things about O2, am looking at going with them in the next few months come renewal

Erm well I'm using a Zoom X6 router instead of the Thomson one O2 provide and it works perfectly fine for me. There's also no username and password to provide to the router it just connects...
So yes you CAN use a different router (if you even look on the help section on the O2 Broadband website they give you the settings to use for your own router)...

You need to phone them if it's non llu to get the username and password.

You can telent onto the Sky Sagem and Netgear routers and get your username and password.
Sounds like 02 is the deal for me
Changing my Mum over from BT to 02 as well. She's paying silly money (£22 - £23 a month) to use Facebook. She'll get the £7.50 8MB deal as my sister has an 02 contract.

I'm sure mine isn't LLU? I can only get up to 8Mb, don't have ADSL Max or whatever the higher speed is called because my exchange is a POS.

im on o2 and its been fine they set mine up the next day when they said it could take 7-10 days to set up

Must be LLU if you plugged a 3rd party router in and didn't need username and password.

If your provider doesn't have it's own equipment, you'll get a shit line.

I work for o2, if you hold out for a month we'll be doing a landline service too so it'll be cheaper then the BT line rental.

Yeh just to confirm. I've been on O2 Access before and im now on O2 LLU service. IMO the Access service wasn't the best, I suffered quite badly with peak time congestion and massive speed slow downs during peak times. The customer service though was great, UK based and very helpful.
Im now on O2 LLU and so far its been fantastic, ive got 14meg router sync speed and 12.6meg download speed consistently onpeak & offpeak. Upload speed is a constand 1.1meg.
I've used a Linksys Wag160N router with both their Access and LLU service. On Access you need to phone up for your Radius username/pass to enter into the router. On LLU these are the settings you'll need.
ISP name: O2 Home Broadband
Multiplexing method: LLC-Based
VPI: 0
VCI: 101
Username: leave blank
Password: leave blank
Just leave username/pass blank and it works spot on.

I signed up to O2 Broadband last month when we moved into our new house. I went via quidco.com and got 75 pound cashback at the time.
Besides that, I also got it for £7.50 a month as I have my mobile with them too. Then to top it off, we had a few problems at the start (problem at the exchange so the activation was a week late) and they gave us a free month.
So after all that it's cost us £7.50 for broadband for the year! Speed is excellent on LLU as well for us.
