Most of the time when i start it, the rev counter climbs to 3 then shuts off as does the EML.

Some times when i start it the EML remains ON but the Rev Counter works? And at some point when the Rev counter decides to stop, the EML light also vanishes..

Any Help or Advice on this please?

Car is a 2000 1.4 Sport and engine was from a 2000 Vectra

Make sure the red wires are all 12v+ constant and the black are 12v ignition feed.. Also check the block is earth properly and the engine loom earth is good.

thanks for the replies.

davey.. the starter has a thick wire running up to the battery neg and i have 3 wires also joining the battery neg, assume for the loom. is the cable from the starter sufficient to earth the block?

There should be an earth on the block and an earth on the head (via inlet manifold).. There should also be an earth from the loom going to the inlet manifold.

the ECU is earthed via its casing so if there isnt a good earth on the inlet manifold it will keep cutting out. Also if there isnt a good earth on the block everything will try and earth through the loom eventually causing it to go "poooooooof" (this is what happened to swills car).

On the diagram there are two wires (brown/white IIRC) that must be connected together.. are they connected?

No two of the comms wires..

Pin 4 and 7 on the corsa plug must BOTH go to pin 44 on the ECU.

Corsa Loom should have a blue with red tracer that wire and brown/white need to both go to brown/white on the new loom. ( I think)

Correct!

The pin numbers should be on the back of the plug.
