My toilet flushes fine but most of the time doesn't seal back up properly so it carries on running water in to the bowl, very annoying and wasteful.

I've taken the flush mechanism out and the plunger doors don't move freely.

This is the model I have

I can remove the green bit but the white lower section is still in there (and stopping the residual water)

Can I swap the green top section only? Don't really fancy removing the bottom bit as that's a bigger job and not really necessary.

Ian youd be as well just to replace the lot , really not as hard a job as you may think.

Do you have an isolation valve on the toilets feed pipe ?

aslong as you can get another exact one then you will be able to replace just the top part, most modern syphons are designed now so you dont need to remove the cistern for a direct replacement...

however are you sure its the syphon at fault? that has an internal overflow so it could be the inlet valve at fault if its constantly running through..

No, if it seals properly then it stops filling as normal. Also if it's running through I can put my hand in there and push the piston down and it stops. Got it in bits now and the economy flush side doesn't move as freely.

If you mean to stop it filling, I've just tied up the ball valve with some wire. Although this will be no good if I'm removing the cistern to change the bottom bit. I'll check that out.

I had the exact same problem a while back Ian.

Its actually just easier to swap the whole lot out.

Buy a whole kit, it took me about 15 mins to do the whole lot and im office based

I had the same problem too. The rubber seal on the bottom was knackered, just bought a new and job done.
As a temp solution I loosened the screw on the lid which connected to the mechanism, which seemed to lessen the amount of water going through.

Don't really fancy changing the whole lot as the button is on the top and most others I've looked at need a handle on the side of the cistern.

Did make someone an offer on Ebay for 15 quid but it was refused, someone else bought it full price and now the cheapest one is 27.50.

I know this may sound simple, but I had this once and all I did to stop it was unscrew the surround to the two flush buttons half a turn or so and it meant it just flushed as normal then stopped.
